4th and 5th vintage

CompNet's 4th & 5th Vintage Dataset

In 2015-2016 The Competitiveness Research Network released to the public respectively the 4th & 5th Vintage of its aggregated micro-based dataset with the aim of encouraging research in the areas of productivity and cross-country competitiveness. The dataset is available for all researchers and policy advisors from our partner institutions & data providers as well as for external researchers upon request.

Data were drawn from confidential firm-level balance sheets for 17 European countries (13 Euro-Area), with information for 56 industries, including both manufacturing and services, over the period 1995-2012. The novelties of the Vintages, with respect to previous edition, concerned the inclusion of detailed information on critical determinants of competitiveness such as the financial position of the firm, its exporting intensity, employment creation or price-cost margins.

Over time a significant amount of research & policy work based on the 4th & 5th Vintage of the CompNet dataset was created. A few examples are presented below:

  1. 4th Vintage User Guide for researchers - link
  2. Assessing European Competitiveness: the new CompNet micro-based dataset - ECB WP 1764
  3. Assessing the financial and financing conditions of firms in Europe: the financial module in CompNet - ECB WP 1836
  4. Assessing European firms' export and productivity distributions: the CompNet trade module - ECB WP 1788

More work based on the 4th and 5th Vintage Dataset is available at the Research and Policy sections.
